Today I'm going to show you how to edit text in Canva! This tutorial will include the following:
- Edit an existing text box
- Unlock a locked text box
- Select a text box
- Delete a text box
- Add a new text box
- Change font size
- Change font color
To follow this tutorial, please navigate to Canva.com and open a Canva document of your choice.
Edit an existing text box #
Double click on the text you would like to edit to edit existing text boxes.
Unlock a locked text box #
Click on the text box one time. If a lock icon appears in the bottom right corner of the text box, then it is locked. Click the lock icon that appears in the upper right corner of your screen to unlock your text box.
Note: This unlock button only appears when you have clicked on a locked text box. If you don't see this icon, the text box you have selected is either not locked or you have not selected the locked text box,.
Select a text box #
Click on any text one time to select the text box.
Delete a text box #
Click on any text one time, then click the delete key only our keyboard to delete the entire text box.
Add a new text box #
On the left side of your screen notice a dark grey vertical bar that runs the entire height of your web browser. Click the “Text” button that appears in this bar top open your text editor. Select the text you want to add and Canva will automatically place a new text box in your document.
Change font size #
To change font size, first, select the text box or specific line of text that you would like to adjust. Then, notice that font options appear at the top of the screen. Click the font dropdown menu in this white bar. This box will be labeled with the name of the font your are currently using and is the first drop down menu in this bar. This will open up your font menu on the left. From here you can scroll to find the font you want or search using the search bar.
Note: Fonts with light grey crowns next to then are available only to Pro Canva accounts. There are lots of beautiful fonts available for free Canva accounts so there is no need to upgrade to a Pro account if you don't want to. We create all of our documents so that you do not need to pay for a Pro Canva Account.
Change font color #
To change font color, first, select the text box or specific line of text that you would like to adjust. Then, notice that font options appear at the top of the screen. Click the color button (A letter A with a small rainbow below it) in this white bar. This will open up your color menu on the left. From here you can scroll to find the font you want or choose a custom color by clicking the rainbow box under “New Color.”
