It’s that time of year. The holidays are practically here, if you blink December will be over, in the crowded city streets of New York the ball will soon drop… and January first will be here.
Have you made your New Year's resolution?
January first isn’t different than any other day. In fact… it will likely look exactly the same as December 31st. The weather will be the same, your health will be the same, your home will be the same, you surroundings will be the same. January first comes to use not wrapped in a bow or pretty paper. It has no inherent feeling or gift.
And yet many of us put all of the pressure on this one day to change our lives.
We delegate tasks to January first as if it wakes us up in the morning with a magical motivation smoothie that makes us get out of bed an hour earlier and adds a bonus 6 hours to the end of the day so we have time to get it all done. We push the tough tasks to start January first as if it arrives with the perfect power pumps to transform us into superwomen. We shove commitment aside like it is an unwelcome guest, arrive six hours too early and you don’t have your face on yet.
But the truth is, making a resolution, then waiting until January first to take action, is just a more socially acceptable way to say “I’ll start tomorrow.” It is comfortable because it is an arms-length away, and arrives with 365 days of “opportunity.”
But what we don’t think about is the fact that we are actively living through LAST YEARS 365 days of “opportunity” and fully wasting it when we push our goals until January first. When we procrastinate until January first, we look our why in the eye and say “you can wait.”
What is your why? Who is your why?
And does your why deserve the neglect that comes with ignoring it until January first?
Today I’m here to encourage you to realize that you deserve better. Today I am here to remind you that it is 100% in your power to make the decision to have and be better.
Do not wait until January first to begin the life you deserve to live. Whether you are tackling a business goal, making healthy lifestyle choices, nurturing your relationships, becoming more organized, or any other goal… you have now exactly what you will have on January first. Don’t waste it.
Get up. Get cute. and get going… TODAY!
