Work-life balance is like a unicorn to most people. It’s something we’ve heard stories about and would love to experience. But we all have a sneaking suspicion that it’s just not real.
…At least not in the way we currently think of it. But what if reaching your goals in business and at home was less about trying to sustain a delicate balance and more about finding a rhythm and flow that changes with the seasons of your life and biz?
On today’s episode, I chat with Alexis Greco, a business coach who supports women who are network marketing leaders in finding rhythm in their home and business. As an entrepreneur, mother to 4 little ones under 7, and an army wife who is very active at her church, it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two about the joys and challenges of finding rhythm in life and in business.
Alexis shares her wisdom with us in this interview, which is packed with little gems that you can begin to practice yourself. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a better understanding of what rhythms are, why they’re important, and how you can cultivate them in your business and home life to make both more enjoyable.

018. Finding Rhythm in Your Life and Business with Alexis Greco
[0:58] Well good morning good afternoon hello welcome whatever time of day it is for you I'm so glad that you're here listening to another episode of the build it like a business podcast I'm so excited for you to be able to sit down and listen to my conversation that I had with Alexis Greco from the rhythmic home all about finding rhythms in your life and your business and how they flow into each other how they affect each other how they can work for you how they can work against you and what that's called today is all about taking a look inward taking a look around and just starting to pay attention to the little things that are going on in your life in your family and your home and your business in the way that you. And how all of those things are interconnected and they act each other so before I give the whole thing away I'm going to go ahead and let you start listening into my conversation with Alexis all right hey Lexus thank you so much Chris on the build it like a business.
[1:58] Cast so thank you so much for joining me giving me some of your time this morning. Yeah of course I'm excited yeah I think that this message that we're going to talk about is just such a relevant one right now so I would love to just start by having you share a little bit about who you are who you serve and what you do through your business yeah well again my name is and I'm a mom I have four little ones we are very busy over here they are ages 7 and under my husband and I have been married for 10 years he is in the army we're very involved with our church and just recently I started my company called the rhythmic home and what I do is I support.
[2:40] Network marketing leaders specifically those who are moms to find rhythm in their home in their business because I really do believe you can be successful in home and in your business and not one or the other I don't think you have to choose yeah absolutely and in this world where we're all like working from home more than ever and of course if you're in network marketing or direct sales you're already working from home anyway right like that's your abs your face it's so easy to blur that line between life and work and feel like if one is not going well the other is not going well and so I think finding that rhythm. Is just it's so relevant right now and it's so important so. Can you talk a little bit about how you got started like what called you to do this and how did you really dive into this business that you're just getting started. Yeah so I have been a part of a network marketing company for 14 years and loved my time there and I started to notice I was always asked to train on the same thing.
[3:43] People would always come to me with the same types of questions and it was how do you do it all how are you running a home and you're in the top one percent of your company how are you doing this while your husband is gone and you're still so involved in church and please hear me I am not perfect I am far from it but what I noticed was that I had patterns and what I did I have rhythms and what I do and they move and they flow in those different seasons of life and that is what was allowing me.
[4:14] To do so many things with ease and with peace so that's kind of how all of this started I just started paying attention to what people were asking me okay that's so interesting this idea of just paying attention to. When you're looking for what is your unique thing that you bring to the table your unique value your your sweet spot your secret sauce just paying attention to what people are asking you for like what are people coming to you and noticing. That you're the expert in and that in and of itself is a rhythm it seems like almost an external Rhythm that's you might not be who's deciding it but it's still happening in your life and it's still existing.
[4:54] Can you talk a little bit about what it means what rhythm is like what is the Rhythm first and foremost and then yeah it means.
[5:03] Find a rhythm in your life or in your business well I always share with the women that I'm talking with in the DMS or my clients just to have Awareness on okay I'm doing things this way.
[5:16] How is that feeling like is that causing stress for you are you really flowing with that and so I think if you were to disassemble what a rhythm was you know it could be a little bit of strategy a little bit of habits a little bit of practicality kind of all rolled into one but what's interesting about it is that my rhythm is not yours. And yours is not mine so it's different and so just through having that awareness and I can share a practical example so I have lots of little ones and something I noticed was in the mornings they would get up and you know they'd come right to the kitchen and one of the first things they would say is mommy can I have some more water mommy can I have some more water. And that would cause some frustration because I'm trying to make breakfast or get my husband out the door or you know put the laundry in the dryer and so I just thought okay. I just had awareness this is not feeling good every morning it is this frustration spin cycle and it just keeps going throughout the day and so I just thought okay you know what I'm going to put water in there in a cup on the counter at their spot where they eat breakfast each morning so now they get up and if they don't have any water left you know from Bedtime they go right to their spot they get some water and all of a sudden that whole thing.
[6:35] I was just. It just went away all of that frustration so that's a rhythm of my now a practical Rhythm Is water cups that's one of my before bed times for me but that happens because I know it's setting me up for a rhythm in the morning that's going to be more peaceful this is so interesting because as you were saying that I was thinking about one of the things that I'm really passionate about which is working efficiently finding ways that you can you're not necessarily trying to save time but you're trying to get the most out of the actions that you're doing the things that you're doing in your business which is of course the perspective that I'm coming from most of the time is looking at business but. It really applies to your life too is looking at you know what's going on and how can I be just a little bit more efficient here and efficient doesn't sound as like.
[7:24] Friendly rhythms Rhythm sounds a lot nicer. I just want to be efficient with I don't have kids I want to be efficient with my kids like that doesn't sound that great but finding a rhythm to. Make sure that your kids needs are fulfilled and that your needs are fulfilled at the same time it's kind of the same thing as finding these ways to just be a little bit more efficient. So that you can save your energy savior save your brain power little make sure that you're still at peace at the end of the day or at least able to get back there rather than wound up and frustrated by little things building up over the course of the day I think that's really interesting would you say that rhythms are inherently positive it sounds like. We were talking earlier about how this you have this Rhythm that was almost external and that might not be the word I think you have another word that you use for but it's kind of like this external rhythm of people always asking you for training on something specific that they've noticed you're an expert in well in this situation example you just gave with your kids.
[8:32] The Writ was almost a rhythm where they were always looking for you they wanted water at the in the morning because they ran out over the course of the night.
[8:41] And that was not feeling that great to you and so it wasn't necessarily A positive Rhythm so do you think that Rhythm inherently implies that something is positive or does that count. Can rhythms be- things that you are looking for in your life as well I think that's such a good question and I've actually haven't been asked that way before so that's really great I think they could go either way honestly and you know specifically speaking to network marketing leaders one of the rhythms that I was in. Perpetual it for women who have children or not and it was not a positive Rhythm was the month-end hustle. And so I would at the end of the month stay up until 1 2 3 o'clock in the morning because that's what you do right quotation marks to reach your goals. And then the next two or three days I would be dead and I was no use to anyone and I did that because that's what you do that's what if you want to reach big goals.
[9:43] That's what I thought you had to do and so that did become I guess you could qualify that as a negative Rhythm you know and logically you think okay we'll just be consistent over the rest of the month so you don't have to do that but if there aren't other positive rhythms in place to support that consistency from. Day 1 to day 30 day 31 you're going to get stuck in that that rhythm of I stay up and then I'm dead for the next three days so I think it could go either way that's so interesting to think it's almost like would you say that positive Rhythm sort of balance out the negative rhythms kind of like. Is it magnets are batteries have like a positive and negative side yeah and they liked it like repel against each other I'm thinking like they kind of like negative each other out they balance each other out it seems like Rhythm sort of.
[10:36] Work in a similar way yeah I've never thought about it that way they could be.
[10:43] So one of the things that I have heard you talk about before is this idea of undertow can you determine what that means and how that affects your rhythms or is a rhythm in and of itself what is undertow yes.
[10:59] Well this whole idea came from I live at the coast so I'm just a few minutes from the ocean and also from the river so water the ocean has always been, a part of my life and if you're not familiar with it and undertow is right off the shore so it's very shallow Waters but it's when you look at the surface of the water and it looks like it's going in One Direction but in actuality underneath it's going the opposite way and I started to think about that and that is so. Relatable to a lot of our businesses like we set out on the first of the month I'm going to do this goal like I'm going to rank up I'm going to have this amount of sales this is what I'm going to work on and all of a sudden you get to the 25th the 26th the 27th of the month and you're like.
[11:48] First where did that months ago and I'm nowhere near where I want it to be and so you stepped into the quote ocean of your goal and instead of going in One Direction something took you the other way that undertow took you the other way and so I talked about that being the negative rhythms is a way you could Define that you know they are the things in your life that are not supporting the goals that you have for your home. And also for your business and so maybe it is the way you work maybe you know you find yourself working every night until two three o'clock in the morning. And if that's not serving your family then you're constantly in this state of frustration and.
[12:32] Get shut of Shame and guilt and then you're all your days are messed up. You know so that's not supporting what you want for your home that could be an undertow you know maybe it's flip flop maybe you do find working that late but it's just noticing and taking time and having that Awareness on okay what's really going on here. What's really happening underneath the surface okay I think this is especially interesting when we're talking about network marketing and direct sales because I think we can all be honest here like we all know that there's a stigma around direct sales and network marketing and thinking about this concept of undertow. I almost feel like some of that stigma comes from not noticing the undertow and then addressing it because it comes to undertow in our lives or in our businesses, whether it's direct sales network marketing or it's another type of online business or a person business.
[13:26] It's our job as the business owner to watch for this stuff it's our job.
[13:32] To notice the rhythms in our own lives it's our job to notice. When we're experiencing this undertow this situation where we want to achieve one thing but we're not necessarily going the right way to make it happen we're being pulled in a different direction and I don't think that undertow makes. This the scenario the situation inherently bad so undertow doesn't make your direct sales company inherently bad what it means is that you look at it and just change the way that you're working. Because the reality is is the direct sales we provides the products and to some extent they provide training but that's a lot of that's really on you as as the business owner.Their job is to make sure that you have high quality products.
[14:19] But your job as the person running your business is to find what works for you. And if you don't pay attention to that and you don't make active decisions to adjust your workflow and to adjust the way that you're working.
[14:37] It's going to feel like it's not your fault like it's the company's fault but it probably is nobody's fault it's great matter of you've got to make an adjustment. And then you've got to try what you what you change try it for sometime see if it continues working and make another adjustment. But it's that idea of undertone undertow isn't anybody's fault it's just you got to notice it and you got to make an adjustment to it have you experienced that do you feel like that sounds accurate to you yeah I would completely agree with that and you know I have said before and I'm would pretty much still agree with that I think every woman should try sometime of her life in a network marketing company or direct sales it really teaches you a lot about yourself and I love my company and the products are incredible and I do not regret my time there.
[15:28] But I think as women we can get so excited especially if we're coming from I can contribute this extra to my family I can contribute this extra for myself and we get so excited about it it's easy to get sucked into the I'm just going to grind it out I'm just going to hustle I'm just going to work until the goal is done I'm just going to do short-term sacrifice until a long-term game and that's not the companies responsibility you know but it's up to us to just slow down a little bit and look at what's working and what's not working and it's hard to do that slow down because a lot of us are business is not the only thing we do that's absolutely true and I think that you're right in saying that it's so easy to get caught up in the goal that you start to fall into this sort of hustle mindset and that also mindset is not specific to direct sales like that exist absolutely everywhere it exists in all businesses but it actually also exists in the corporate world as well in traditional jobs where your expected it might be your boss putting the pressure on you if you're in business whether it's network marketing online business or something else. It might be pressure from peers and just watching other leaders in the industry achieving certain things and you're like okay I've got to get there too as they're there I can do it and so you feel like you have to constantly push to get there.
[16:57] And you know there are times when short-term sacrifice will lead to long-term gain. But it's not short-term sacrifice it's one after another after another after another like that has to be sprinkled in short-term sacrifice for a long-term gain needs to be like sprinkled not The Habit that you're constantly not the Rhythm it can't be your Rhythm or you're going to get burned out and that's our job to really notice that and make an adjustment so.
[17:28] Why would you say is it important to pay attention to these rhythms in our work and our home life and not just focus on one at a time why why look at them both and think of them in the context of each other rather than things like separate boxes. Where life and work are just like completely not touching and that's a great question too and I think it's easy to separate the two like this is what I do for my business this is what I do for my home but in reality. We are the common denominator. We are the human that's running the business and that is also the wife and the mom and the sister and the volunteer and a lot of times. Those of us women who are running our network marketing businesses were also running and maintaining our home and all aspects of it you know from top to bottom and so it's important to know how those two play together so they can support one another because yes I do agree there is there are times that short-term sacrifice will result in long-term gain but we just have to have that awareness that that short-term does not become every month which turns into years and then we look back and realize oh gosh that's not what I wanted but we're the common denominator there. We are the one person it's you know you can even have a team of even people that are helping you in your home or helping you in your business but it all stops with you.
[18:55] You get to decide what that looks like so I think that's why it's important that we look at all of it holistically because we it's woven together I have never heard somebody say before that you're the common denominator and it makes so much sense like I don't know why I've never heard somebody say that before it makes perfect sense because if you're looking at I'm a thinking scientifically right like they say to look at what's the what's the constant in your experiment thinking of like my high school chemistry class which was Australia back to it shout out to my high school chemistry teacher I learned something you look for the common denominator you look for the constant that's in them and when it comes to your business and your life that constant is you and you can't really look at what. Another person is doing in both and judge yourself against them because the same common denominator doesn't exist because.
[19:49] Even if even if in some crazy world like you are living the same life like all things are the same somehow your brains are still different your minds are still different the way that you think about things process things and hold emotion and all of that it's different inherently. And so that common denominator is really what it all comes down to which makes me want to ask how do you feel about this idea of work-life balance how does that phrase feel to you it initially feels a little rough around the edges and you might you know my thinking about that is you know you think of.
[20:26] I have small children so this is always where my mind goes but if they're on the Seesaw together in order for them to balance each other out they must be the exact same weight.
[20:36] And that means if we filter that to our business and our home.
[20:42] If we expect balance we would assume that they are the exact same weight and I don't believe that's true. I think it has a flow to it it has an ebb there are seasons to it where yes we're talking again short-term sacrifice long-term game maybe. For a couple days you're launching a new program you're doing something new it looks like having a conversation with your husband and your kids Hey Mommy's working on this new thing in the next three days I'm going to be doing a lot more of this but then we're going to get back to our normal rhythm of doing it this way or maybe it's the opposite I have a client her husband is unable to work and is home all the time right now and so she's in a different season so she doesn't have that 50/50 split. Of that so I don't think I would agree with the word balance you know of course I'm you know lean towards Rhythm More but it's just because we can't give it that even 50/50 split because that's not how our lives work yeah that visual of this seesaw is it's really powerful because it really does put into perspective that on one hand. Your business and your life I don't think are ever going to naturally fall into this perfect balance where you're putting the exact same amount of energy into both of them at any given time and then on the other hand. You also get to choose which one carries more weight.
[22:10] And I think I'm going to make an assumption about most people but I think most people are going to say if you ask them their family carries more weight than their business their business is sort of this vehicle to provide for their family and it's a vehicle to provide for their clients as well and Their audience and people that are looking up to them but it's vehicle it is ultimately a vehicle and I think for most people family family is where they would choose to put more weight if they were deciding and so this idea of Helens doesn't necessarily make perfect sense because. Right off the bat I don't think most of us would choose for them to be balanced I don't think most of us would choose to put right. Equal amounts of effort and attention into both. Because we want to be over here our business is a vehicle so that we can spend more time over here with our families.
[23:10] I was talking about this idea of seasonality actually yesterday was my friend Megan so it's just amazing timing that we're having this conversation you brought the idea of seasonality as well and I think that's so relevant in that. Our life and our business does have seasons and. To some extent those happen automatically right like we just fall into seasons based on what we're doing kids go back to school that's a season it's definitely different than what the season of summer might look like and I can even see that as not having kids I have never had kids that have had to go back to school but I can see watching from the outside that that in itself are two different totally different seasons. And your business will be the same if you're in a launch period versus not in a launch period those are different seasons and so.
[24:00] Your rhythms it sounds like might change from season to season so do you think that rhythms are these permanent structures or is it something that you can just revisit on a regular basis or how off how does that work how often do you go back and look at your rhythms and adjust and change I mean honestly I think it goes to what you're saying about seasonality about really knowing what season you're in and to even. Has awareness about that you have to slow down enough to actually think through that so if you were a like for me I've been in Seasons where I have one in diapers one potty training one almost potty trained in one potty trained and that changed daily and that affected my work.
[24:46] Because you know I was not going to leave two and a half three children who were in diapers or potty training with the sitter so that affected my work you know so for me right now in my season of having several young children it's on a weekly basis for me. On what that Rhythm looks like and so as we record this today I'm in day 2 of launching. A new program and so on this past weekend when I sat down with my calendar I had to find a new rhythm of having someone come help me for a couple hours with laundry. Because I knew I didn't want to be doing that at 10 o'clock at night right so, for me right now it's a weekly assessment that I'm looking at and it's not these huge shifts it's just you know. I could use a little bit more support here or husband is traveling let's tweak this here. If you're more set maybe you look at it once a month or once a quarter, but just slow down enough and maybe that's just time you're having a cup of tea and thinking or maybe your journaling that out whatever that looks like to just.
[25:54] Be aware of what season in my in what kind of support do I need what kind of strategies do I need to support where I am right now yeah it really just sounds like it's a it's it all comes down to. Paying attention. And then with that being intentional like making choices making intentional decisions about what you're doing and then why you're doing it how it's going to affect. Your life and your business and all things in between where they overlap one of the quotes that I love a lot is sometimes you have to slow down to speed up. Yeah and sometimes we need to do that we need to slow down see where we are see where we want to go so and we can speed up so I love that that just plays into what we were talking about.
[26:39] Yeah absolutely that's such a great quote I really love that that's I always I have sticky notes for I write like little reminders to myself like. Never less than I need to remember it goes in the sticky note and I keep it nearby. That way I can always go back to it because sometimes I feel like I think of these things right here these things. Not in the moment that I need it most but I know it's a moment that's probably coming or that I will fall into so I love having little things like that on sticky notes I can go back to so it's definitely one. That's going to go on a sticky note can you talk about the idea of margin and why that's something that's important to plan for and be aware of in your life. Yeah so margin is one of my favorite things to work with women on and you could call it you could think about it as breathing room. And your schedule and I think so often we can look at our planners whether on our phone or on paper and we see this white space. And all of a sudden we feel like this tightness in our chest like oh my gosh I'm not using my time wisely and I need to fill it up and I need to do all these things whether you're working in a network marketing business or not you know even if you're just home with the kids it can feel like we need to fill that space up with something but margin is simply white space.
[27:53] On your calendar so practically if you have a bunch of young kids like me margin is leaving 10 to 15 extra minutes, to get them into the car because it does not take it's not a 3-minute process to do that if you're just walking out the door alone margin is ten.
[28:11] Before you start your meeting so you can mentally prepare and switch yourself from.
[28:18] Personal mode to professional mode so it's just leaving breathing room. In your schedule instead of just going going going going putting on this hat putting on this space and at the end of the day. Just feeling so burnt out and tired as you're talking about leaving this extra time for things I was immediately thinking about myself because, so everybody who listens to this podcast knows I have ADHD it's something that I've had my whole life and I am always thinking about because it plays such a big role in my business and my life just always there and so. With that comes massive lack of time management skills like I have to be very intentional about my time in order to make sure that I'm not late for things or forgetting things I'm good at it now like I've Gotten Good at it over the years but there was a long time or time management just did not exist in my brain it was not there and so. Making about leaving this margin that's something that I've done myself knowing that I spent a long time showing up late for literally everything with the deadline I was always late for it and so one of the ways that I helped. Not solve the problem but.
[29:31] Prevent myself from being in a situation like that is leaving this margin leaving time for myself saying if the deadline is. 10 p.m. get it done by 9 p.m. And then have that extra hour of time for you know when I got distracted around 8:30 and then all of a sudden I was here and I was like oh well supposed to get that done leaving that extra hour because I know that's just who I am. And I think that when you start to do that you stop beating yourself up for. These little things like being late because that was something that I was so self-conscious that I hated it was so embarrassing it never feels good to put someone else's day or schedule completely off because you just didn't show up for something or you were late for it and. Instead of.
[30:22] You know feeling sad about it feeling upset about it I put in time for Rick for for margin I put in margin and gave myself the extra time so that I wasn't in those situations nearly as often. And that really gave me the freedom to not be in a situation where I had to feel bad about it where I had to you beat myself up for being late for something when.
[30:46] It may have felt like it was out of my control you know what I mean where you feel like.
[30:51] You know I didn't really plan for this like I didn't plan to be late but leaving that time it removes the situation where you have to feel bad about it. I think that in and of itself is very freeing when you're not even in the situation where you have to feel bad about something.
[31:09] And that's not just an ADHD thing like that I think can apply to a lot of people in a lot of different situations so.
[31:18] If you're finding yourself constantly feeling bad or not feeling good about a situation you're in maybe there's a way that you can. Not put yourself in that situation and maybe that means leaving some extra margin so that that situation doesn't have to happen as often it's just figuring out that flow for you and just like you said how you did it so we're still going to mess up sometimes and that's okay we're humans but at least we're going in the right direction absolutely someone was saying to me the other day that even if you go down the wrong path a lot of people feel like if they make the wrong choice your they're stuck there and she said to me you know if you go down the wrong path. I was just going to remember you can turn around but you can always just put around and just go the other direction and I just think that's so important to keep in mind and so relevant to. Just talking about this idea of margin and not eating for Perfection just remember you can turn around you can always try something new you can always change how do you think that being intentional with rhythms in our personal lives will allow us to be more productive at work do you think they're connected in that way as well I do and I think they can serve. Each other I think you can Pat find rhythms in your personal life that will.
[32:35] Produce more productivity and efficiency for your business and you can also find those rhythms in your business that will produce that for your home as well it's that same concept of being the common denominator it's us. We are that person and so our right hand can do something to serve our left hand. And the other way around too so yeah I really do think they are interconnected and that's why I started this was because we get incredible training from our companies.
[33:05] About how to run your business and you know we hear from our upline and top leaders on this is their schedule and you know this is how they run in this is their scripts that they use.
[33:16] But then what we're missing a lot of times is well what are we doing for our homes and that's where I saw the need for so many women and I noticed that's what they craved that's what they were asking how do I do this for my home and it flows right into business.
[33:32] Because we're one human were one person I think if you are finding the Rhythm in one it really changes your mindset it puts you in the right mentality. To be present for the other to be happier in the other to just feel overall to feel better. In the other whether that's your home and you're feeling better in your business you're showing up to work ready to get things done you ready to focus and concentrate or in your business you know you're you're leaving enough margin to actually be able to hit your deadlines and wrap things up and like. Your projects on will then when you get home. You're not thinking about businesses much you're able to give your all to whatever is that at home waiting for you whether it's kids dogs husbands wives whatever it is you're able to be fully present for that because. You've let yourself get into the right mindset by not putting yourself in a situation where you're feeling frustrated and feeling not good in any in any way whatever way that that is I'd love to just talk a little bit about confidence because I think that. A lot of it does come down to confidence you were looking to other people and I see this all the time. You're looking for other people to tell you what to do to give you the roadmap that checklist but you know what's the script what should I say to this person if I want this result.
[34:49] And I think a lot of times it comes from a place of lacking a little bit of confidence to trust yourself to.
[34:58] Even if you don't know to try and figure it out.
[35:01] And so I'm curious what you think about how we can find our confidence and find the confidence to trust ourselves to really create rhythms that are unique to our lives to pay attention to our own lives. And create habits in our business or in our home how do we find the confidence to.
[35:22] Just trust ourselves to know what's best for our own lives and not always feel like we have to rely. On somebody else's roadmap somebody else's checklist on how to do things. I think it's so easy to jump into okay I'm going to okay I'm listening to this I'm going to start a new rhythm of contacting X number of people a day and I'm going to get into doing this and it's going to be part of my rhythm and. It's sometimes feels easy to jump into that but then if you go back to the undertow maybe what's happening underneath maybe you. Are having trouble even trusting yourself because you said last week I'm going to start drinking eight glasses of water a day. And every time you didn't it was this little internal voice in your head that's like told you you couldn't do it I knew you wouldn't be able to do it and so then. Again common denominator it is the same voice that when you are now setting out to talk to 10 new people a day, that voice can come back because you have not developed a pattern of trust with yourself and that trust is then what develops the confidence. And so. It might not look sexy right away that the what you're starting with the Rhythm that you're starting with is I'm going to drink two glasses of water a day.
[36:45] For a week and then I'm because now you're developing trust with yourself you know okay I'm going to write out my schedule for the next day the night before and although those things are not.
[36:57] Right now Moving Mountains in your business they are developing a pattern internally. Of telling yourself I can trust myself you know and I believe confidence eternally comes from the Lord but think about it is with babies you know we they trust us to be like okay they're trying to learn how to walk okay baby come on get up you can do it again what if we were like oh my gosh you're never going to walk this is so ridiculous you keep falling down we would never tell our children that. But then we sit down to do something that we've set out new to try and we fall down and we're telling ourselves are you kidding I knew you would do this you fail at this all the time so in finding. Confidence in yeah. This is a rhythm for me this is working for me just know if you're running into rough patches or tension there might be an undertow happening where.
[37:56] You need you you are still you still need to learn how to trust yourself on even the small things and they will build upon that does that make sense yeah it really does it's really about you've not only got to put yourself in a position to be successful so this idea of drinking eight glasses of water a day well maybe don't jump into eight right away like I won't try to then grow from there take these baby steps and allow yourself to actually be successful because the truth is to go from 0 to 60 is not easy that's very difficult to do and it's not totally reasonable to expect so why put yourself in the situation to try and Achieve something that just doesn't really make any sense instead step back and take a look at how you can really set yourself up for success and it's kind of goes back to that idea of short-term. And long-term game will this is a long game like most things that we do are along game we've got to try stop trying to make it happen in the short term because I just think about what are the little steps that I can take now so that this becomes a long-term habit so that it becomes a long-term reason that's in your life and so. With that when we're looking at the world today you're we live in a pretty unique world right now we just went through one heck of a year we're all still we're at this point in our lives I think. We've sort of gotten used to.
[39:25] You the pandemic covid like living that life like right we've been doing this for a year at this point we kind of know what to expect.
[39:33] And so we're now looking at our own lives saying how do we.
[39:39] How do we create these rhythms and now today I know everyone who's listening to this is going to use the word Rhythm when they're thinking about they can now put a name to it.
[39:48] Which is going to be so helpful.
[39:51] So we're looking at our lives in saying you okay this is the world we live in I've got to find the rhythms that work for this world whereas I think over the past year a lot of the time you really waiting for it to end. Or we were waiting to go back to normal that's just not that's just probably not what's happening like we're living in the world right now so how can we.
[40:12] Create rhythms based on the world we're living in now and do you see that if there are any big struggles that people are having commonly. Given the world that we're living in that maybe you could give a few tips on how to address those or things that you've seen working for other people. When everything shut down and you know we all had to stay home. And even you know for me my network marketing company my appointments were in people's homes, and so that was a huge shift on like okay now I'm really like I'm a stay-at-home mom but now I'm like really a stay-at-home mom like we have to figure this thing out.
[40:50] I learned to not underestimate the importance of my hometown home rhythms even though no one rarely saw that, on the scoreboard of my team or of my company because we are home so much now this is our home this is our work and so one of the things that I've noticed is it is very important to pay attention what's going on at home base.
[41:18] And sometimes you do need to slow down a little bit to maybe recalibrate some things to cultivate some new rhythms in your home so they can better support. What's going on and if you're married that might look like a conversation with your husband on hey I've been working on the dining room table and I'm in the middle of a bunch of projects and I know that looks messy like are you good with that do we need to come up with a new plan and just being open to communicate with the people that are living in your home whether it's spouse or not or roommates or grandparents and just being open with that on hey this is where I'd like to go in my business this is what I'd love you know our home to feel like because our home is the central base right now for everything even though we're coming out of where we were last March it is still very much a central location for a lot of our life yeah and I think that people are going to carry that with them going into the new year even as things start to feel a little bit more normal you know a lot of businesses are finally starting to bring people back into working in person.
[42:26] We can build rhythms that don't have to end.
[42:30] As the world feels a little bit more familiar the way that it has been for such a long time that those things can carry with us and they can make us stronger moving forward and. That we're probably going to see a lot of differences, in the way that we think and the way that we carry ourselves and it comes down to paying attention to what's changed what's continuing to change. Does this still work as the world is going back to quote-unquote normal or as the world is evolving into something totally different that we hadn't experienced before just what's working and what's not and how do we continue to make adjustments and keep moving forward well this has been an amazing conversation I have a couple of Rapid Fire questions that I would just love to ask as we wrap up I just love hearing these like same questions from all different people and I would love to know I have three questions for you I'd love to know what is your favorite Business book my favorite Business book is chasing cupcakes by Elizabeth Benton. Love it and she has an incredible podcast to I know you didn't ask me this but Primal potential Elizabeth Denton look her up she's really good okay I definitely will I've never heard of that book before and I literally love the name okay definitely going to check amazing chasing cupcakes yes so good okay love that can't wait to check her out can't wait to read that book.
[43:56] He you share a tool or software that you use in your business that you just can't live without oh my gosh I cannot live without project broadcast it is a texting I love it you can schedule text messages with it it gives you like your own essentially your own business number so it allows me to keep my business text separate from my personal so they don't all get jumbled together and it makes it really easy for me to set quote office hours so I love it I tell everyone I'm like oh you need this that's amazing and I've heard that before you're definitely not the only one who feels that way so I feel like there are a lot of people backing that statement up can you share what your favorite thing to do is to unwind when you're not working number one involves putting my phone face down somewhere in another room where I'm not. And honestly I get super super protective over our Saturdays as a family and you know unless we have a birthday party or a family dinner or something I really try not to schedule anything on Saturdays just to have a day on the calendar that is white.
[45:08] And it just looks so much opportunity for us just to be lazy and hang around the house or maybe we have a day full of home projects but we get to decide what it looks like so that's some of that's one of my favorite things to do just during the week is protect that Saturday time and have that as a family that's the ultimate example of margin like I absolutely love that I learned early on in my business to protect my weekends I have said that for a long time like protect the weekends like those are like. Timeout zones like no one gets to touch those those are totally mine and I would encourage anybody who's listening to this if you don't have a day of the week or even a specific.
[45:52] Maybe it's Friday nights after five PM like whatever it is that you can fit into your time find some time that you can protect. That is yours that you can use however you want to use it. Sometimes you might need to use it for work but sometimes you might need to just go lay on your bed and literally do that I'm a big proponent of taking a nap I love good naps that's a good I asked somebody else what their favorite thing to do to unwind outside of work was never like naps love a good man I was like that sounds great yeah thumbs wonderful all right before we wrap this up can you just let everybody know if they want to connect with you follow you get in your space where can they find you online.
[46:35] Okay Instagram Is My Jam I am there I am in my DMs everyday well you know except Saturdays and Sundays but I love it over there so you can find me there Alexis to Greco super easy and just check out whenever you're listening like what we have going on and I'm also on Facebook too if your face girl it's same thing Alexis to Greco but I do love to hang out on Instagram more perfect and did you say that you have a Facebook group that you run for your community as well that you wanted to share. [47:46] I love that and I will put a link to your Instagram Facebook and then I'll also put a link to your group in the show notes so that anyone who's in a podcast app or on my website can just easily scroll down and just find those and click right over sounds like an amazing group and I know that a lot of people need this message not just today, continuing moving into the future we need to see it all the time and be reminded of it especially when things are tough and we're feeling a little stressed we got to be reminded look for those rhythms so.
[48:17] Thank you for being here with me today and generously sharing that Community with my community in my audience here on the podcast I can't wait to check that out and just continue following you in your journey I love the business that you're building and I know this is going to be such a blessing so many people in the thank you so much this is fun I appreciate it.
